Artist Information

Susan Bonham is a contemporary visual artist and photographer based in Reading, England.

Susan obtained an Honours Degree in Fine Art and Education in Reading under the tutelage of ‘Systems’ artist Jean Spencer.  It was during this time as a student that she first developed a keen interest in forms of abstraction. Photographic records of found surfaces and textures provided the inspiration for large abstract canvasses often utilising a grid format. Rich saturated colour, surface pattern and a sense of balance and harmony have been consistent themes in all of her work.

Susan’s photography initially acted to inform her painting.  However, she now uses high quality digital photography to enable her to create harmonious abstract compositions from a palette of vibrant images sourced from locations in several countries.

The textural characteristics of a single image can often act as the catalyst for inspiring entire compositional ideas. It is always the balance of colour, form and picture space that Susan is striving for in order to achieve her visually rich assemblages.

Susan Bonham has exhibited in group and solo exhibitions in Oxford, Ilkley and Reading.  She has works in private collections in Switzerland, France, the USA, Australia and the UK.
